Time to unveil the mask!

The new government came to power with beautiful promises and unbreakable wows, numerous pledges and assurances for the nation.   One of their primary focuses for the fulfillment the promises have been to increase the revenue for the government. Very recently parliament has passed the bill to increase the import duty for number of items and the President has ratified the bill today (24 April 2014). To make the situation worse, communication services has been included as a taxable service. it is crucial to note here that, with import duty, GST (goods and service tax) has to be paid. This means double taxation for a single item.  

Progressive Party of Maldives is the ruling party of the Country and they have got the Majority of the new parliament with the help of coalition parties. It is with regret that i say as soon as they got the power, they have started to change what they have said during the election. For example first bill sent to the Parliament was the amendment bill to the President's Immunity and Privileges, which covers the household expenses of the president even he lives personal residence. This is a clear indication of priorities of the president. Instead of a bill beneficial for the whole public he hurried to pass to bill of his own interest. On other hand the bills which lead to collect more tax were also passed. Basically this clearly shows that more are taken from citizen and more are paid for the government officials.

“Small bite, big threat”

Mosquitoes, flies, ticks and bugs may seem to be simple and harmless, but it also can be a threat to your health – and that of your family - at home and when travelling. Furthermore it can be deadly harmful in certain cases. Each year 8^th April is marked as World Health day by World health organization. Slogan for this year’s health day is “Preventing vector-borne diseases”. According to WHO every year, more than one billion people are infected and more than one million die from vector-borne diseases. More than half the world’s population is at risk from diseases such as malaria, dengue, leishmaniasis, Lyme disease, schistosomiasis, and yellow fever, carried by mosquitoes, flies, ticks, water snails and other vectors. However the most common such disease is Dengue which spread from mosquito.

Mosquito-borne dengue is now found in 100 countries, putting more than 2.5 billion people (over 40% of the world's population) at danger. Yet there is no vaccine for dengue which is spread by aedes mosquito. All what we can do is get rid of mosquito. For that we have to avoid the empty spaces which can accumulate water especially in rainy season. Dengue is a seasonal disease and rainy season brings high chance of spreading this disease. Maldivian rainy season often falls into June and July. We need to be extra careful during this period. Hence prevention of dengue is on the hand of general public.

ކަޅުހެދުމުގެ އާދިއްތަ

މިއަދު 2014 އޭޕްރީލް 6 ވާ އާދިއްތަ ދުވަހަކީ ޓީޗަރސް އެސޯސިއޭޝަނުން އިސްނަގައިގެން ކުރިއަށް ގެންދާ ހަރަކާތެއް ގޮތުން މުދައްރިސުން ކަޅުހެދުމުގައި މަސައްކަތަށް ނުކުތުމަށް ނިންމާފައިވާ ދުވަހަކެވެ. މުދައްރިސުންގެ ފަރާތުން ހާމަކުރާ ގޮތުގައި މިގޮތަށް ނިންމީ މުދައްރިސުންނަށް ސަރުކާރުންދޭ ސަމާލުކަން ކުޑަކަމުންނެވެ. އަދި ކަމާބެހޭ އިދާރާތަކާއި ސަރުކާރުގެ އިސްވެރިންނާއިއެކު މިކަމާ ގުޅޭގޮތުން މަސްވަރާކުރެވޭނެ ގޮތެއްވެސް ހަމަޖައްސައި ނުދިނުމުނެވެ.

ކަޅުހެދުން ލުމަކީ އެއްގޮތަކުން ބަލާއިރު މައްސަލައެއްނޫނެވެ. މުދައްރިސުން އެބައިމީހުންގެ ހިތްހަމަ ނުޖެހުން ފާޅުކޮށް ސަރުކާރަށް އަންގައިދޭން ބޭނުންވެއެވެ. ކަމާބެހޭ ފަރާތްތަކާއި ބައްދަލުކޮށްގެން އެކަންކުރަން އުޅެ ވަނީ ނާކާމިޔާބު ވެފައެވެ. ދެން އޮތްގޮތަކީ މަސައްކަތް ހުއްޓާލުމެވެ. މަނަވެސް ކިޔަވައިދިނުންފަދަ ދާއިރާއެއްގައި މިފަދައިން ކަންތައްކޮށްފި ނަމަ އެކަމުން ނުކުންނާނެ ނަތީޖާ މާހިތިވާނެއެވެ. ވީމާ މަސައްކަތް ހިއްޓާލުމުގެ ބަދަލުގައި ލާ ހެދުމުގެ ކުލައިން އެކަން އަންގައިދިނުނަށް މަސައްކަތްކުރުމަކީ އަޅުގަނޑުގެ ނަޒަރުގެ ޓީޗަރސް އެސޯސިއޭޝަނުން ދަރިވަރުންނާއި އަދި މުޅި ތައުލީމީ ދާއިރާއާއި ދޭތެރޭގައި ފުންކޮށް ވިސްނާކަމުގެ އަލިގަދަ ހެއްކެވެ.
